The impurities in tap water make it a poor long term choice for drinking, food preparation and bathing. When the products used to treat the water come in contact with organic material, including your body they form carcinogens like trihalomethanes and haloacetic acids. Tap water is generally regarded as a temporary solution to your daily water needs.

Over the past 20 years or so, poor water quality has driven bottled water sales through the roof. The water in some cities is impossible to drink, either because it is too alkaline or too contaminated. Unfortunately, bottled and barreled water is put through a reverse osmosis process which strips everything out of it, making it very acidic, with a pH that can be dangerous to health over time. The pH of RO water is just about the same as a cola beverage and constantly challenges the body’s buffering system. If you drink lots of this water you can deplete your body’s buffering system and eventually illness and disease will result.
Steam distillation that is used by some companies has the same effect on your body as reverse osmosis water. The tragedy is that the bottled water companies will use every means at their disposal to convince you that drinking their water is good for you. A WHO report shows that drinking a de-mineralized water like RO or steam distilled water can cause a variety of illnesses and diseases.

The average cost for a bottle of water is between $1.20 and and $2.00 per gallon. There are literally hundreds of companies worldwide marketing and selling all types of designer waters. Some of them are flavored and some are even plain old filtered tap water. The most expensive bottled water is called BlingH20 which sells for $40 USD for less than a quart. Bottled water still costs more than gasoline and by the production, transportation costs and the costs to the environment, in my mind it isn’t worth it.
Charcoal Filtered Water Jugs
There are components in these types of filtration jugs that make the water half a percent more acidic that it was when it entered the jug. It not only takes out the chlorine, it takes out the minerals. This is not healthy water to drink on a long term basis.
Vortex Creating Water Systems
If the tap water is contaminated then there is no way to get the contaminants out. These types of appliances just spin the water.
Reverse Osmosis Under The Sink Units
These too make the water very acidic. They are just a smaller version used by the huge water companies to make bottled water. This type of water is not recommended for long term use.
Electric Water Ionizers
These machines hook up to the kitchen faucet, filter the water, split the water into two streams, acid and alkaline and micro-cluster it. Advocates say that this type of water is the most healthy to drink. It is like that high mountain stream that is antioxidant-rich alkaline water that efficiently hydrates the body. People who drink antioxidant-rich alkaline water as their only source of hydration find all kinds of symptoms disappearing. It seem that by alkalizing the body, pumping to full of antioxidants through the ingestion of this water, detoxifying through the micro-clustering effect of this water and properly hydrating themselves, the disappearance of symptomatic disease is proving what scientists have been saying for a number of years now – that chronic and symptomatic disease is a result of acidosis and dehydration. Organic Alkaline Water Filter Pitchers
These pitchers look like the charcoal filtered water jugs but there is a marked difference. The filters use extremely advanced technology and produce antioxidant-rich alkaline water just like an electric water ionizer except no electricity is used and the water is not split in an electrolysis process. There is actually more antioxidant potential in this type of water than there is from electrically ionized water. The alkalinity is either equivalent or better than an electric ionizer. One of the advantages to this type of pitcher is that it outperforms any electric ionizer with none of the resulting  dangerous EMF – electromagnetic radiation -exposure. The other advantage is the cost.  We haven’t been able to find a downside to these types of pitchers. They are portable, dishwasher safe, convenient, virtually no set-up and you have really healthy water even if the power goes off.
